| Wall Decoupling Systems (RSIC-1 Clips) |
Description |
STC - Link |
  |
Advantage: VERY high STC assemblies, Effective for walls and ceilings, very easy to use, 1 hour fire rated, UL Tested, Hat/Furring channel available locally, uses standard sheetrock, Saves wall thickness relative to "double stud" construction, economical shipping, one mounting location, can be used without demolition of existing wall.
Description: These clips attach directly to a stud wall and are designed to "float" the sheetrock off of one sides of the wall. By decoupling the wall construction, this system is able to offer some extremely high STC ratings. Relative to a wall assembly consisting of double studs, walls built with the RSIC-1 clip will offer the same or better STC rating, a one-hour fire rating, overall lower build cost as well as more room space on either side of the wall.

| Mass Loaded Vinyl (MLV) |
Description |
STC - Link |
 |
Advantage: Does not add a lot of thickness to wall assembly, effectively increases mass of wall assembly, low-cost product, very simple installation - almost impossible to "short circuit"
Description: This product is intended to increase the overall mass of a wall assembly. The vinyl is mixed with a black "tar like" product called Barium which gives this product it's mass and density. It is available in a few different roll sizes (54" wide x 20', 30' or 60' long). It is attached directly to the stud wall like a vapor barrier and all seams and edges are sealed with a construction sealant. After the vinyl is in place, it is covered with standard drywall. This is an older technology that was/is used as a technology to replace the addition of lead sheets inside of a wall.

| Mass Loaded Vinyl with Decoupler |
Description |
STC - Link |
 |
Advantage: Cost effective, Simple installation, minimal addition to wall profile, easily dropped onto standard ceiling tiles for increased STC
Description: This product is the same vinyl as noted above but only comes in the 1lb psf option. We laminate a ¼" thick, polyurethane foam decoupler to one side of it so that the vinyl is able to move and resonate as the sound wave hits it. It can also be installed as a standard ceiling tile backer to help to stop sound transmission into a plenum and over a common wall.

| Green Glue Viscoelastic damper |
Description |
STC - Link |
 |
Advantage: Very easy to install, offers "added benefit" to an existing wall assembly, can be used without demolition of existing wall, economical shipping.
Description: This is one of the newest technologies in the acoustics industry and is used between two layers of sheetrock. The Green Glue is not an adhesive and an installer will still need to screw thru the second layer of drywall into the stud for structural support. The Green Glue is used to convert energy that would typically resonate thru a wall as a vibration. I often use the "fingers on the crash symbol of a drum set" example. It is basically like a layer of elastic that is intended to reduce vibration and resonance. An important note is that the product takes a full 30 days to cure completely so the performance of the product just after it is installed is not as good as it will be after it has time to set up completely. To install, it is put on the back of a piece of sheetrock in a completely random line pattern - like a kid scribbling with a Crayon before the second layer of sheetrock is applied and then pressed onto the wall.

| Pipe and Duct Lagging |
Description |
STC - Link |
 |
Advantage: Very Easy to install, Class A rated when foil backed, Offers high STC values
Description: This product is used exclusively to wrap HVAC ducts. The fiberglass acts as a sound absorber as well as a decoupler for the mass loaded vinyl which is the product doing the "sound blocking." It is a very heavy product (1.25lbs per square foot) and one should be sure to consider the added weight to the HVAC system before installing. We adhere a reinforced, silver Mylar to the finish side of the vinyl which offers a class A rated finish surface.

| Acoustik TRubber Flooring underlament |
Description |
STC - Link |
 |
Advantage: Offers highest IIC and NRC rating for floor assembly, Works with any finish floor, Made from recycled car tires, Dual deurometer rubber, easy to install, 25 year warranty.
Description: This product is made by recycling used car and truck tires from the east coast. The tires are trucked up into Canada and the steel belting and nylon is removed. The rubber is smashed and crushed until it is the size of grape nuts. The rubber is then re-compressed into a 3/8" thick sheet and formed into rolls. Installers use a 3/16" notched trowel to put down a specific adhesive called DA-5 and the rubber is set on top of that. It is critical not to run nails or screws thru the rubber which will quickly short circuit it's ability to block airborne OR impact noises. The top treatment depends on the finish floor but typically an exterior grade or marine grade plywood is adhered to the top of it with an adhesive called Poly 300 and the finish floor is applied as it normally would.

 |
Advantage: Low Cost, Economical shipping, recycled product, thin flooring assembly, works with multiple finish floors, available with or without a vapor barrier for ceramic tile or concrete subfloor.
Description: This is a low cost hard surface decoupling product made from recycled cotton fiber. The cotton is compressed to an 1/8" thickness and formed into rolls measuring 3' x 33'. Installers can use standard linoleum tile floor adhesive to hold the cotton to the subfloor. Engineered "snap together" wood floors can simply be floated over the cotton, or thin-set can be applied directly on top of the cotton (with the vapor barrier) and tile can be set.

| Soundproof Windows Inserts |
Description |
STC - Link |
 |
Advantage: Custom sizes, VERY simple installation, Increased thermal efficiency, Very discreet when installed, easy to remove for cleaning, will work for historic renovations, high performance.
Description: These retrofit windows were first used as products to increase thermal efficiency. We discovered that because of the reduction in any draft coupled with the bellows and the "dead air space" locked between the existing casement window and the new window that the windows offered a substantial increase in STC rating of the assembly. The perimeter of each window utilizes a magnetic "bellows" system similar to the seal around a refrigerator door. We use ¼" thick acrylic plastic instead of glass because it is lighter, will never yellow, and is much more effective acoustically. These are custom made for each job and usually require a 3-4 week lead time. The magnetic frame is used with a light gauge "L" bracket that the installer screws onto the existing window frame. When the Magnacoustic window is in place, the window is non-operable.

Advantage: Class A rated, offers good STC rating
Description: This is an older technology that does not seem to be used too often in newer buildings unless other options will not work for the installation location. The most common location for lead is to "extend" a sheetrock/stud wall from the top of a drop ceiling to the roof deck. This product is preferred over the mass loaded vinyl in this type of situation because of the Class A fire rating associated with the lead.
